Cranberry & Chia Oatmeal

Cranberries; most people have heard about them but have never really consumed them. It’s time to change that. This super fruit is known as one of the world’s healthiest foods. They are low in calories and benefit the cardio vascular, immune and digestive tract systems. Not only this, studies show they play a huge factor in preventing types of cancers due to its high levels of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties!

Chia contains more omega 3, fibre and protein than any other plant on Earth. It is known as a super food and is a favourite of many celebrities such as Jennifer Hawkins, Miranda Kerr and Jessica Alba. It is also full of antioxidants and is said to benefit hair, skin and nails. Nutritionists recommend for adults to eat one tablespoon of chia a day. It can pretty much be used in any recipe and can act as an egg replacer if you just add a bit of water to make a paste. For those of you who have a gluten intolerance, it is a must to your diet!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 pear
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 cup plain greek yoghurt
  •  1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup crushed roast pistachios

Method:

  1. Combine oats, almond milk, chia seeds and honey in a bowl.
  2. Peel and grate the pear and add into the oat mixture. Also add in the cranberries and crushed pistachios.
  3. Cover the bowl with glad wrap and refrigerate over night.

*Note: If you want to make this as a warm dish, complete step 1 in the microwave on high for 90 seconds. Once cooked, add the remaining ingredients.
